Inside the drop

In every tiny drop of linseed oil, oat oil, pumpkin seed oil, and lupin oil there are hundreds of lipid molecules and small amounts of bioactive ingredients. The main constituents are triglycerides that form a protective film on the skin and supply energy to cells. Linseed oil is dominated by alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation and supports skin elasticity. Pumpkin seed oil features high levels of linoleic acid (omega-6) and oleic acid (omega-9), aiding regeneration and the skin’s lipid barrier. Oat oil contains a mix of oleic and linoleic acids, as well as valuable tocopherols (vitamin E) and plant sterols that protect the skin from oxidation. Lupin oil provides balanced proportions of omega-6 and omega-9, along with natural antioxidants and phytosterols.

The differences between these oils also show up in color and aroma: linseed oil is light golden with a delicate nutty aroma, pumpkin seed oil is darker with a nutty note, and oat oil often has a neutral scent. In cosmetic practice, linseed oil is often added to anti-inflammatory blends and serums for dry skin, but it must be protected from oxidation. Pumpkin seed oil is valued in anti-aging creams and facial oils for its antioxidant richness and support of the skin barrier. Oat oil excels in moisturizing and nourishing cosmetics, supporting the lipid barrier thanks to its constituents. Lupin oil, though less common, is used in massage blends and nourishing creams, adding lightness and nutrients without a greasy film.

The main difference lies in the fatty acid profile and the presence of antioxidants, which determine stability and cosmetic action. Additionally, each oil has a different shelf life; flaxseed requires protection from light and cool temperatures to maintain freshness. When choosing oils for care, pay attention to freshness and the pressing method, as they influence effectiveness and safety of use.
